With Verzuz poised to make its return, a selection of artists are poised to incorporate their names to the spectacular listing of all those who’ve contributed to the growing system. But if Trey Songz is to be believed, he is not going to be just one of them. 

“No, I’m not [open to doing Verzuz],” Songz said in the course of a Thursday job interview with Houston’s 97.9 The Box. While he thinks Verzuz is a good way for acts to display their discography, Songz explained that he is only competing against himself.

“But for me, I have in no way actually been into staying in competition with the future male, the future female, and placing myself in a position where by I gotta say, ‘this is much better than what you’ve accomplished,'” he continued. “I am in opposition with myself. On top of that, I really don’t think there is any person that seriously do what I do.”

Songz went on to say that functions like Chris Brown and Usher, artists who have “solidified a place for on their own,” shouldn’t be battling every single other. In its place, he would like to see a Verzuz formatted in a way that they can showcase their discography without the need of being pitted against each and every other. 

Verzuz was in a position to successfully do this with acts like DMX, Snoop Dogg, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and a lot more. Even now, it appears to be that Trey’s reviews intrigued Verzuz co-creator, Swizz Beatz, when they hit The Shade Space.
