Despite the fact that he was notoriously compelled into retirement a long time ago, Moses “Shyne” Barrow’s post-rap job has been very fruitful.

Belize held its national elections on Wednesday throughout which Shyne won the Mesopotamia seat in Belize City for the Residence of Associates. Barrow took to Instagram where he celebrated his victory by reminding his followers that he went from “HIP HOP TO THE Property OF Associates!!!”

“Thank you MESOPOTAMIA!!! It is with the greatest humility that I take this victory for us!” he wrote. “This victory is for all individuals who are just like me in Mesopotamia, Belize and the earth around! All people who have taken a fall! All those people who have stumbled on their life’s journey. We all slide! But to get up and walk, run and rise once again is the function of life!”

Shyne was in jail from 2001 by way of 2009 for his hand in a nightclub taking pictures that concerned his previous record label manager, Diddy. Shyne was billed with attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment. On his release, he was deported to his native Belize where he became involved in politics. 

Moreover, politics is the Barrow family small business. Though his father, Dean Barrow, will be changed as the country’s key minister by John Briceño, Shyne’s sister, Denise “Sista B” Barrow, won the Queen’s Square constituency.
