The trailblazer will be the first Black woman featured on a United States currency. The coins with the poet’s likeness have shipped out to banks this week.

The Maya Angelou design is the first quarter in the “American Women Quarters Program,” a four-year program that will include coins featuring prominent and diverse women in U.S. history.
