Supreme Court Judge Stephen Breyer is retiring from the nation’s highest court after almost 28 years on the bench.  The liberal-leaning Justice is 83.  His absence from the court leaves space for the president to appoint his first justice, an opportunity Mr. Biden is determined to make impactful.

At the White House on Thursday, Biden confirmed that his new nominee appointee will be the first Black woman on the highest court, calling the transformational moment “long overdue.”

He also vowed to name a successor for Justice Stephen Breyer by the end of February.

In September 2021, the Biden administration was criticized for the treatment of Haitian refugees on the Mexican border.  When photos surfaced showing the US Border Patrol whipping and chasing migrants while riding on horseback at the Del Rio International Bridge, many were outraged and called on the Biden administration to intervene in the humanitarian crisis.
