Premiere: Bottler Offer Tongue-In-Cheek Darkness For The Dancefloor

In 2020, Brooklyn-based duo Bottler, aka producers Pat Butler and Phil Shore, emerged with a double bill of EPs—Clementine and Grow—and now, after a comparatively quiet 2021, the pair are back with “You’re Old”, the first in a fresh batch of new music, which will ultimately form their upcoming debut album.

This new one picks up a lot of the threads of those two EPs, mixing bright and colourful music with unexpectedly dark humour in their lyrics. “You’re old, you’re old, you’re going to die,” goes the refrain on this one; a playful jibe about impending mortality, delivered in jest with a wry smile against the backdrop of a deep, energising electro house groove.

Sharing their thoughts on the track, the duo : “‘You’re Old’ is the oldest track on the album, originally made for our two debut EPs. Put against a bubbly, dreamy house electro house track, the song utilises a technique present in our writing for as we’ve been writing songs: dark, tongue-in-cheek lyrics set against a fun, poppy track.”

“You’re Old” is the first single to be taken from Bottler’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled debut album, which is due for release in May.
